WHY THE FUCK AREN’T PEOPLE REBLOGGING THIS??
Yeah, don’t take this the wrong way, but we really are only getting one half of the story. It sounds like the parents themselves are at eachother’s throats and this poor child is in the middle of it. Gender identity aside, this looks to me (from experience) as two selfish parents using their child as leverage.
If Alex takes issue with her own gender identity, that is entirely her say. It is and ALWAYS will be her body to live as she chooses; however, I believe unequivocally that the parents are using her to one degree or another. I’m not sure about institutionalization in Germany, but the latest I’ve heard of this story, Alex is actually being taken from the home and evaluated psychologically. I believe that there is more to this choice than simply gender identity; I feel she is being removed from the home and away from the influence of two vapid mudslingers who want nothing more than to use their child to hurt each other. It is not a psychological norm for a child to experience full-blown gender identity issues at eleven (even ten, if you consider how long this has been going on,) and it is important to consider that fact in her evaluations. (Caveat: It does happen, of course, but this is a psychological deviation. It is not typical behavior at this intensity.)
If Alex wants to live as a woman, excellent! She is a beautiful child, and deserves a say in what happens to her own body; however, without the medical implication of a preexisting hermaphroditic condition, the deferential at this point is going to lead medically to outside influence in this poor child’s psyche.
Again, don’t hate; I’m not trying to make excuses, but I’ve spent a fair share of my life around doctors, good doctors. Children are rarely underestimated in a “live and let die” fashion, because they are still developing psychologically. There is always more to the story.
